Spencer Ray asked:

For people wanting to jump higher, tips on how to achieve that extra bit of elevation can be all important to personal performance. The natural agility which is embedded through training your muscles to allow you to jump better, will bring a wide range of benefits.

Not only is the workouts involved good for cardiovascular values, the exercises that targets specific muscle groups will leave you feeling lighter and more nimble on your feet. The ability to soar just that little bit higher than an opponent in the world of sport, is the ability to finish on top.

When learning how to just higher, tips start nowhere else other than the warm up. Jumping can be an abrasive and harsh act upon the body if not performed correctly, so warming up, as with any sporting exercise is vital. Gently warming and stretching the muscles, increasing the oxygen levels and blood flow is crucial in preventing damage. Jogging is a great way to warm up as it works the entire body.

Target the leg muscles to train them to know how to make you leap better. There is potential energy within the calves and thighs, which may be hindered by the wrong kind of training. Weight training for example might limit the jumping ability as it will train the muscles in a way which is counteractive to good jumping. What needs to be reached is the explosive power which comes from making the muscles react faster, essentially speeding up the leg muscles. This will provide them with more agility and power.

The toes can also be worked, and as far as how to jump higher tips go, may get overlooked often. The toes, being the final push off point in a jump, can give just that little extra thrust if they are stronger. Raising yourself onto your toes repeatedly will exercise them and the calves at the same time.

General fitness is also crucial, along with a good diet to promote health. Skipping rope is one of the most beneficial training aids that can further jumping ability. It works the entire body, but also gets the right leg muscles into shape.

Good flexibility will aid in jumping, the knees, ankles and hips especially. Don’t forget the arms and the shoulders either, for they provide extra thrust upon take off, and can make you reach just that little bit higher.

Caffeinated Content

John T Henderson asked:

It is very important to jump higher in basketball so that you can score a perfect goal. However, many basketball players are not able to acquire this skill even after so much of practice. Some might not have their very own coaches to help them. Others simply don’t know how to start the training. Hence, it is very important that you learn exercises for jumping higher in basketball.

Always start up with the warming exercises before proceeding further. Warming up will help your body to adjust to the movements of the exercises that will follow much later. Jumping exercises usually follow after the initial warm-ups. Crouch down with your knees up to your chest and your back straight. Then quickly, jump up as high into the air as you can and try to land in the same position as you started. Repeat this exercise until you feel that you have relatively increased your jump. Try to jump an inch higher everyday.

Toe raising exercises will also help to increase your jumps and maintain the right balance while playing. It also adds strength and precision to your footing and thigh and calf muscles. Try this exercise by standing on flat on your sole and slowly standing on your toes. Most athletes with high jumps recommend jumping rope exercises. Jumping ropes help your sprinting, ankle and calf muscles, preparing these for higher jumps on the court.

When it comes to choosing a bandwagon for training program, don’t choose the first training program that comes your way. Make sure that that you do your research and pick a proven program. All quality programs are backed by professional trainers who have trained many athletes.

These exercises are not sufficient. But if practiced regularly and religiously over a period of weeks and months, can give you really good results.

Caffeinated Content – Members-Only Content for WordPress

Howard Smith asked:

Many athletes are always looking for exercises to jump higher. They want to add valuable inches to their vertical jump in order to increase their athletic performance. There are several great exercises to help you jump higher and I will detail them in this article.

If you want to jump higher you need exercises that target the proper muscles that are involved in jumping. Not all exercises are conducive to increasing your vertical jump height. Some exercises will build muscle strength but you need to focus on building fast twitch muscle in order to jump higher.

Box jumps are a great vertical jump building exercise. To perform box jumps you simply need a box that is around 1 -2 feet high. Start by standing on one side of the box and proceed to jump over the box and land on the opposite side. Then repeat and jump back to the side you started on.

Another exercise to help you jump higher is rim jumps. All you need to perform this exercise is a basketball hoop. Stand in front of the basketball hoop and jump up as high as you can and try to touch the rim. Then as soon as your feet land back on the ground, jump up again trying to touch the rim. Continue these repeated jumps for about 10 reps.

The last exercise I will go over is the speed rope. Many people discount the benefits of the speed rope but they should not because it is the perfect exercise to help increase your vertical jump. It forces you to make quick and explosive jumps which are great for training to jump higher. All it requires is a jump rope and can be done almost anywhere.

These 3 exercises to jump higher are a great starting point for anyone looking to increase their vertical leap. Remember that you always want to be training your fast twitch muscles because they are the ones that will lead to increased jump height.

Create a video blog…instantly.

Tim Land asked:

How would you like to jump 10 or 12 inches higher than you currently do? How would that increase your performance? Maybe you are just inches away from dunking the basketball and feel you may never SLAM DUNK.

Dunk training? Who needs dunk training? To jump higher, you just practice jumping right? WRONG! You’ll only be able to jump as high as your god given or what you think is your genetic abilities right? WRONG!

In order understand how to jump higher to dunk you need to learn how to train appropriately. You need to know the right exercises performed in the right sequences at the appropriate times. There are correct ways of training and there are exercises that just waist your time. The wrong ones can even retard your progress.

Current knowledge of Physiology and kinetics has come a long way in recent years due to the extensive research that’s been conducted. We know a lot more about performance enhancement and how the physical body works than ever before.

Athletics in general have evolved tremendously. Imagine just 40 years ago, weight training in football, basketball and baseball was considered a hindrance to the performance of these sports. They felt it would make you muscle bound and it was not endorsed. Now you would have a hard time finding any professional athlete that doesn’t perform resistance exercises. It’s no secret that elite athletes of today not only perform strength training but plyometrics, speed, and agility exercises to help them perform at higher and higher levels.

What’s amazing is that athletes are learning how to train correctly at much earlier ages. The bar has been raised and it’s no longer good enough just to practice your sport. You have to perform additional specialized drills to help you achieve you best. Specialized dunk training can separate you from your competitors and give you a skill that catapults you above the average.

These days in order to compete and perform at your best you need the absolute best training available. Something to take you to another level because if you don’t you can be sure that your competition is.

Caffeinated Content

Ricky Lim asked:

All of us would like to Jump higher however only few of us make it; all because of good exercise. Now, the question comes into our mind that what is the best exercise to jump higher.

There are lots of excellent exercises that will allow you to spotlight on the precise target that your exercise must strike to help Jump Higher. Following are the exercises for Jumping Higher.

A: Limit Strength Exercises

The main task is to accelerate the power in the muscles which are being use for Jump Higher. Growth will be apparent in the amount of weight which you can move in beginning.

The main objective is to increase the contractually strength generating ability of the muscles that are used in the exercise to jump higher.

Average time gap of Limit Strength Exercise should be 25 seconds. Few of the Limit Strength Exercises are. Full Back Squat, Deadlift, Split Squat, Glute Ham Raise.

B: Explosive Strength Exercises

Explosive Strength Exercise refers to the capability to build up maximum strength in minimal time with the exclusion of the polymeric stretch-reflex.

Jumping from a paused position and sprinting out of the blocks both require nearly pure explosive strength because you don’t have the comfort of snaking up and exploiting polymeric capability like you would if you took a big run-up before Jumping.

Such kind of exercise generates most of the strength in the first 3 seconds movement. In order to do this exercise you should first do the Limit Strength Exercise as this one requires lot of power and strength.

Few examples for Explosive Strength Exercise are Box Squat, Pause Jump Squat. Standing Broad jumps and hurdle jumps

C: Reactive strength exercises:

These kinds of exercise are for achieving the full of jumps. The purpose with the immediate power exercises is to accomplish the movements with either less time spent on the ground or by jumping higher.

Each exercise and replication places a premium on extending of the muscle-tendon complex, which will enhance your reactive/reflexive power by escalating your capability to soak up force, alleviate force, and automatically respond to that force.

This exercise permits you to take benefit and fabricate upon the spontaneous forces that come from the polymeric effect. This is a very essential exercise to Jump higher.

Examples include Ankle Jumps, Shock Jumps, Depth Jumps, and Reactive Squats. All you require is consistency and hard work in your exercise to jump higher.

Caffeinated Content

Steve Wells asked:

If you ask yourself “How can I jump higher?” you are not alone. A lot of basketball players want to improve their vertical jump. In fact, in basketball it’s extremely useful to have a high vertical.

Here are the advantages: you’ll grab more rebounds, block more shots, become quicker and more explosive, it will be much more difficult to block your shots. And – for some the most important benefit – you finally will be able to dunk!

If you already can dunk, continue to work on your vertical as you will be able to do a two-hand-, tomahawk-, reverse-, windmill-, hand-in-the-rim- or a 360-dunk.

However, in the beginning it’s important to lower your expectations a bit – it’s extremely difficult if not impossible to learn to dunk in just one or two weeks. Especially if you are a beginner and can’t even touch the rim. But it doesn’t mean that you can’t learn to dunk if you are 5’7”! Spud Webb and Nate Robinson are both only 5’7” and Slam Dunk Champions!

Vertical jump training is about constant workouts – and smart training. Smart training means that you understand that your body is not a machine and muscles need time to develop and to regenerate. This leads to the

Top 3 Secrets of Vertical Jump Training:

1) Quantity. Limit the length of your vertical jump workouts. A lot of people who want to increase their vertical real fast simply over-train. They don’t see any results except muscle pain over even injuries and give up. Keep in mind: Your vertical workouts shouldn’t last more than 30 minutes! It’s also important to do the vertical jump workouts every other day as your muscles need time to regenerate. One of the most common mistakes in vertical jump training is doing too many repetitions (and at middle intensity).

2) Quality. Believe it or not – jumping as much as you can isn’t effective at all if you want to increase your vertical. Here’s the reason: this way you only train your “jumping endurance”. In order to increase your vertical jump effectively you need to train your “jumping explosion”. That simply means it counts how you jump, not how often you jump. The right execution of the exercises and the right amount of repetitions are the key to success. One jump at 100 % of your power is worth more than 30 half-ass leaps.

3) The Right Exercises. Plyometric exercises are a must if you want to increase your vertical seriously. Here is an example: find two high boxes (low enough that you can still jump on top and high enough that it takes some effort to jump on top) that are heavy and sturdy enough to hold your weight and place them about 80 inches (ca. 2 meters) away from each other. Get on top of one of them. Drop of the box and as soon as you land jump on top of the other box. Start with 2 sets of 6 repetitions.

Caffeinated Content

Cindy Ou asked:

If you want to know how to jump higher – it’s all about getting the right kind of training to strengthen your core muscles.

How to Jump Higher Wit Your Core Muscles

Although leg specific exercises do have it’s benefits, it’s the Total Body workouts that counts the most … and are the best exercises to jump higher. You see a strong body means a strong core – and will translate to greater burst of speed and overall strength.

A good example are the professional basket-ballers and Aussie Rules footballers – not only are these athletes well proportioned, each individual have strong core muscles – and they are very fit. By working on these core muscles, you will engage large muscle groups, and increase your fast twitching muscles that will give you that burst of power.

Total Body Workouts like the dead-lifts, weight lunges, bench press and others are the kind of workouts that will strengthen your core muscles.

As well as strengthening your core muscles, you need to be fit.
Josh Neumann asked:

There are many vertical jump programs out there. However only a few actually seem to really help players jump substantially higher. Retailers sell jumping machines, jump shoes, etc, and athletes use them with various degrees of success. However, if you really want to jump much higher, these options are not the answer. Exercises at home is actually much more effective than going to a gym and using a jump machine, for several reasons.

First of all, you only have a limited time to exercise with the equipment, due to the other users in the gym, and often have to endure long waits. Also, the machines have not proven all that effective in increasing athletes’ vertical jump.

Then there are jump shoes. These always seem to help athletes jump much higher at first, when they just starting using them. This is due to the fact that the shoes are very heavy, and actually trick the muscles into thinking they are stronger than they really are. Therefore, when one first starts doing exercises with them, they see dramatic results. These soon slow down and, once an athlete stops using the shoes, dissipate altogether.

The really effective programs utilize every jumping muscle to absolutely skyrocket the vertical jump. Jump machines and jump shoes only target a select few. Every muscle needs to be targeted to truly see dramatic results. There are several programs that have been extremely effective in increasing one’s vertical leap. If you really want to jump higher, I would highly recommend checking out this one in particular.

Also, while vertical jump exercises are certainly important, that’s not all there is to it. One often overlooked variable than will greatly increase your results the quickest is proper nutrition. Most athletes overlook this simple but extremely important factor in their performance. Nutrition plays a huge role in high you jump and your quickness and overall energy level. Fortunately, this program explains that as well.

To sum it up, there are many jump programs out there, but only a few that have proven very effective. If you really want to jump higher, this one in particular is the way to go. It covers all the basics, exercises every muscle important to jumping, and provides an excellent nutrition plan. Work hard, and you very well may double your vertical leap.

Create a video blog

Here are some tips for how to get hops for basketball, football, volleyball or whatever sport you play.

Does weight lifting your improve leaping ability?

This has been a hotly debated topic for some time now. The truth is that weight training for jumping does work…because without power you cannot reach your potential.

What are the best weight lifting exercises?

#1) The squat

This is one of the best vertical leap workouts out there…but only if you do it with low reps and heavy weights. Many people advocate that you use light weights and do a ton of reps.

This would be ideal if you are training to enter a triathlon…but not if you want to jump higher in a week. 6-8 reps is the most you should do, and lift as much weight as you can when doing this amount.

What about jump shoes when doing plyometrics?

Despite the negative publicity they get, they are also excellent for helping you gain inches. They will help you to improve your balance and coordination…both of which are important for improving your athleticism.

How to gain inches INSTANTLY…

Swing your arms as hard as you can when leaping. If you don’t already do this then you will likely notice this increases your jump by 2-3 inches by itself without doing any vertical leap workouts.
Kelly Mcgill asked:

There are two important things in basketball, one is your shot and the other is your vertical jump. You have probably seen many players on the shorter side with incredible hops that you couldn’t believe and thought were God given talent. Well, they might be, but many high school and college players are taking their average vertical jumps and transforming them into amazing hops thanks to vertical jump training.

The proof begins with players who as short as 5’7″ have increased their vertical and can actually dunk a basketball! By using the right training program, players have transformed average verticals to unbelievable verticals. There are plenty NBA players with verticals that are significantly less than what players achieve when they use vertical jump programs. In fact, the average prospect for the NBA has a one-step vertical of 28-30 inches. It’s possible to achieve a vertical closer to 42 inches with the right program. Transform your average vertical it into an amazing vertical with a few easy steps. High school players can enhance their talent and skills and increase their odds of being chosen for a college team. The same goes for college players looking to stand out on the court. An amazing vertical will certainly do that and could be the path to the NBA. Above all, men and women basketball players can simply play better ball by improving their hops.

What’s a Vertical Plan about? High school and college basketball players have a lot of competition and must practice long and hard to stand out. However, they must know how to practice and train in the best way for their bodies. For example, the average linebacker has a vertical of 36 inches although he weighs significantly more than most basketball players. This is shocking at first, but it proves the basis of vertical jump training, which is there are core muscle groups that must be trained to develop an explosive vertical jump. Power and strength are what are most important for the highest vertical jump possible.

The basis of the plan is to determine the athlete’s force, speed, bodyweight and body fat percentage. All of these numbers are used to create a specially designed program for each individual athlete. The most important aspect of an amazing vertical is strength and knowing how the individual athlete should train to build that strength.

Website content
